Configuration Validation

Configuration guide

See what each configuration resource depends on, find what depends on it, and open validation results that need attention.

Open Configuration → Validation. Use the Configuration tab to inspect relationships between resources, and the Validation tab to review the results of configuration checks.

The Configuration resources list contains the NIM objects you can inspect. Search for a resource and select its row. The Uses and Used by panes then show its relationships in opposite directions:

UsesDependencies

Resources the selected item needs to work.

Selected resourceThe item you clicked

For example, a filter or mapping.

Used byDependents

Other resources that rely on the selected item.

In the example below, the selected filter uses a variable, another filter, and systems. It is used by a sync task, jobs, mappings, and other configuration. The # uses and # used by columns show how many relationships each resource has; select a row to see the names.

Use Uses when a resource is broken and you need to check its inputs. Use Used by before changing or removing a resource so you can see what else might be affected.

Select the resources to check in Configuration resources, then select Run in the upper-right corner. Open the Validation tab to review the results. The heading summarizes the number of errors, warnings, and successful checks.

Each result includes Status, Category, Name, and Description. Search the list to narrow it to a resource or message. Select the description of a result to jump to that resource's configuration and investigate it.

StatusWhat to do
SuccessThe resource passed its validation check. No correction is indicated by that result.
WarningReview the condition and decide whether it affects the intended workflow. A warning needs attention even if the resource can still be used.
ErrorOpen the description and correct the invalid or missing configuration before relying on that resource.

The supplied example log includes missing references and conversion functions as errors, and incomplete event actions or data-model settings as warnings. Use the message in Description to identify the specific item and condition; the status alone does not explain the cause.

Correct an issue and validate againDirect link to Correct an issue and validate again

  1. Select the result's description to open the affected configuration resource.
  2. Correct the referenced item or one of its dependencies. Return to Configuration and inspect Uses if you need to trace the source of the problem.
  3. Select Run again, review the new result, and test the affected workflow with a safe record before resuming broad automation.
When to run validation

Run validation after significant changes to systems, relations, filters, mappings, jobs, roles, notification templates, or scripts.
