Manage multi-factor authentication

End User guide

Set up multi-factor authentication (MFA) for your NIM account when your organization requires or offers it.

At a glance

MFA adds a second verification step when you sign in to NIM. Your organization decides whether MFA is required or optional. If it is required, NIM asks you to enroll during your first sign-in. If it is optional, you can start enrollment from Setup MFA in the user menu. Complete enrollment only on a device and authentication method approved by your organization.

Set up MFA

When MFA is required

  1. Sign in to NIM with your usual account.
  2. Follow the MFA enrollment prompts that appear during sign-in.
  3. Complete the required verification using your approved authentication method.
  4. Confirm that you can finish signing in to NIM.

When MFA is optional

  1. Sign in to NIM.
  2. Select the user icon in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select Setup MFA.
  4. Follow the enrollment prompts and complete the required verification.
  5. Sign out and sign in again to confirm that MFA works as expected.

If you cannot complete MFA

Do not repeatedly retry an enrollment or sign-in step if you no longer have access to the approved device or authentication method. Contact your NIM administrator or organization’s support team. Tell them whether MFA was required during sign-in or started through Setup MFA, and describe the point where the process stopped. Do not send passwords, one-time codes, recovery information, or screenshots containing sensitive information.

What your administrator controls

Your administrator controls whether MFA is required or optional for NIM accounts and can provide organization-specific instructions for approved authentication methods, device changes, or account recovery. For administrator configuration details, see Configure multi-factor authentication.
