Installation
Get NIM running
Prepare the server, install the NIM Service, sign in to NIM Studio, and activate the installation. Most environments can complete this sequence in one session.

Install NIM on Windows Server, confirm the NIM Service is running, open NIM Studio, set the Administrator password, and activate the supplied license code. Production environments should replace the installer-created self-signed certificate with an organization-provided certificate or Let's Encrypt after installation.
Before you start: Prepare a supported Windows Server with the required CPU, memory, and storage. Keep the installer and license code available.
Verify success: NIM Studio opens, the license error clears after activation, and the License status shows the installed license information.
Choose a tab, then follow the numbered instructions. Expand screenshots when you need a visual reference.

Configure endpoint-protection exclusionsDirect link to Configure endpoint-protection exclusions
During large mapping or role operations, endpoint protection can interfere with NIM processing. In your endpoint-protection product, exclude the following paths and executables:
C:\Program Files\Tools4ever\NIMC:\ProgramData\Tools4ever\NIMC:\Program Files\Tools4ever\NIM\node.exeC:\Program Files\Tools4ever\NIM\nim.exeNIM PowerShell connectors are not currently signed. Endpoint protection may also affect connector processing.

Run the NIM Windows installer. Use the recommended network settings: enable HTTP on port
80, leave HTTP-to-HTTPS redirection disabled, and enable HTTPS on port443.View screenshot
Choose the installation folder. Keep the default location unless your organization has a documented alternative:
C:\Program Files\Tools4ever\NIM\.View screenshot
Complete the installer. NIM installs the required components in the selected installation folder.
The installer creates a self-signed certificate. After installation, use your organization’s certificate or Let’s Encrypt for production HTTPS. See HTTPS for configuration details.

Configure additional service memory (optional)Direct link to Configure additional service memory (optional)
The NIM Service memory limit defaults to 4 GB. If your workload needs additional memory, adjust the limit using the Service Settings guide. You can skip this step if the default meets your needs.
- Review the server's available RAM and choose a limit that leaves memory for Windows and other services.
- Back up the affected Registry key and record the current value before editing it.
- Follow the Service memory limit instructions in Service Settings to adjust
--max-old-space-size=atHKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NIM\Config\args1. - Restart the NIM Service to apply the change, then confirm that NIM Studio opens and the service runs normally.
Consider enabling HTTPS and multi-factor authentication (MFA) as part of your installation setup.
