The NIM service account must be able to access the DNS server remotely and read the zone records needed for your audit.
NIM requires Hostname.

- Identify the Windows account running the NIM service.
- Grant that account remote access to the target DNS server and permission to read the required DNS data.
- Ensure the NIM server can reach the DNS server and that network and firewall settings permit the connector's remote access.

Test Connection always returns success for this connector. Run a system collection to validate connectivity, service-account permissions, and zone record retrieval.
- Save the connection settings and run a collection for the Microsoft DNS Server system.
- Check collection status and review the retrieved zone records in NIM.
- If collection fails, verify the Hostname, the account running the NIM service, remote access permissions, and network connectivity.
- Confirm the records match the intended audit scope before using them in filters or reports.
