Configure License Notifications
License notifications
Keep administrators informed about license expiration and usage limits with scheduled evaluations and email notifications.
Create a license evaluation task, an email template, an optional filter, and an event action. Choose the evaluation frequency, recipients, and thresholds that suit your environment.
Create the scheduled taskDirect link to Create the scheduled task
- Go to Scheduler > Overview and click Add.
- Select License Evaluation in Type and enter a descriptive name.
- Save the task.
- Open Schedule, enable scheduling, and configure the evaluation frequency.
- Save your changes.
Create the notification templateDirect link to Create the notification template
- Go to Events > Templates and click Add.
- In Notification Event, select the scheduled task you created.
- Enter the From, To, and Subject values.
- In the email body, use NIM variable > event > data to insert license information.
- Save the template.
Create the event filterDirect link to Create the event filter
A filter limits notifications to the conditions you choose, such as approaching expiration or nearing a usage limit. Without a filter, the action sends a notification for each matching evaluation event.
- Go to Events > Filters and click Add.
- Enter a descriptive name.
- Select license-evaluation in Event Type.
- In Event Name, select the scheduled task you created.
- Add a condition and choose its Property, Operation, and Value.
- Save the filter.
For an expiration alert, use LicenseExpirationDaysLeft (data) and select a comparison and threshold appropriate for your policy. For example, smaller_than with 30 means fewer than 30 days, not 30 days or fewer.
The screenshot shows two conditions. If you want both to apply (fewer than 30 days remaining and more than zero), enable AND filter. Choose different conditions if expired licenses should also trigger an alert.
Create the event actionDirect link to Create the event action
- Go to Events > Actions and click Add.
- Select license-evaluation in Event Type.
- In Event Name, select the scheduled task you created.
- Select your email template in Template.
- If you created a filter, select it in Filter.
- Save the action.
The scheduled evaluation now produces an event that the action uses to send your notification when its filter conditions match.
