Connect and Model Identity Systems
Systems
Connect the authoritative sources and target systems behind your identity workflows, then model and collect the data NIM needs to make reliable decisions.
A NIM system is an external application, directory, database, or service connected to NIM. Systems provide the data NIM reads and the destinations where it applies controlled changes. The same system can be a source in one workflow and a target in another.

Connect a supported system
Choose a supported integration and follow its connection guide for required credentials, permissions, certificates, and tables.
Browse integrations →Add or import a system
Create a system in NIM, import an existing configuration, or add an Internal system for NIM-managed data.
Manage systems →Configure the data model
Choose tables and columns, assign keys, and define relations so NIM can identify and connect records correctly.
Model system data →Collect and verify data
Load current system data, inspect collection status, and confirm the records NIM will use in a workflow.

Define the system’s role
Decide which data it contributes, which account records it owns, and whether NIM will read from it, write to it, or both. See sources and targets.
Collect only useful data
Select the tables and columns that support your identity outcomes. Keep stable identifiers, contact data, and attributes needed for eligibility and target updates.
Set reliable keys and relations
Configure primary and reference keys, then define intra-system relations so NIM can interpret records without ambiguity.
Validate before automating
Collect data and inspect it before creating filters, mappings, jobs, roles, or self-service experiences.
System areasDirect link to System areas
- Manage systems — add, edit, import, export, and organize system configurations.
- Data models — manage tables, columns, keys, relations, and dataset statistics.
- Collection — collect, load, inspect, and manage system and table collection history.
- Internal system — work with NIM-managed users and data used by internal features.
- Connectors — learn about connector options, including custom REST and PowerShell connectors.
- Vault — understand the current collected system data that powers filters, mappings, roles, and workflows.

Once the source and target systems contain reliable data, move to Processing to create relations and filters. Then use Output to build mappings, jobs, roles, and auditing for the identity changes you want NIM to make.
The provisioning tutorial shows how to connect HR data and Active Directory, prepare records, create accounts, and keep them synchronized.
