Systems management guide

Create and maintain the system configurations that connect NIM to your identity data and target applications.

Use this page to manage a system after you know which connector or system type you need. For connector-specific setup, start from Integrations. For the role that a system plays in a workflow, see Sources and targets.

Add a systemDirect link to Add a system

  1. Open Systems > Overview.
  2. Select Add.
  3. Select the connector or system type you want to configure, then follow its setup guide. The relevant guide is listed on the connector’s integration page.
  4. Save the system, configure its connection and data model, then collect the system.

Choose the right starting pointUse a supported integration when one is available. It provides the connector-specific connection, permissions, and data-model guidance that a generic system setup cannot.

Add an Internal systemDirect link to Add an Internal system

The Internal system is a built-in target for users and groups managed inside NIM. It does not connect to a third-party application. A common use is controlling access to Apps.

  1. Open Systems > Overview, then select Add.
  2. Select Internal and accept or replace the default system name.
  3. Select Save. The system appears in Configured Systems.
  4. Configure mappings and jobs as you would for any other target system.

For details about internal users, groups, and identifiers, see Internal system.

Edit or remove a systemDirect link to Edit or remove a system

  1. Go to Systems > Overview.
  2. To edit it, select Configure for the system and update the relevant connection, data model, or connector setting. Collect the system afterward to validate the change.
  3. To remove it, select Remove, then confirm Yes.
Before removing a systemExport its configuration or save a configuration scenario first if you may need to restore the setup. Review any filters, mappings, jobs, or apps that rely on the system.

Import a systemDirect link to Import a system

Import a previously exported JSON configuration to restore a system or create a similar configuration.

  1. Go to Systems > Overview and select Import.
  2. Select the exported .json file.
  3. Enter a distinct System Name, then select Import.
  4. Confirm the imported system appears in Configured Systems, then collect it.

Export a systemDirect link to Export a system

  1. Go to Systems > Overview.
  2. Select Export Configuration for the system.
  3. Save the downloaded .json file in a secure location.
info

An export contains the system configuration, not collected system data. To protect the full NIM environment, use backup and restore.

Use configuration scenariosDirect link to Use configuration scenarios

Configuration scenarios are reusable snapshots of a system configuration. Use them to test a configuration while keeping a working version available to restore. This feature is connector-dependent; some connectors include a default scenario.

Save the current configurationDirect link to Save the current configuration

  1. Open the system you want to save.
  2. Select Scenario in the upper-right corner.
  3. Select Add, give the scenario a clear name, and save it.

Load a saved scenarioDirect link to Load a saved scenario

  1. Open Scenario for the system.
  2. Select the play button next to the scenario to load.
  3. When prompted, create a backup scenario of the current configuration if you may need to return to it.
  4. Confirm the change, collect the system, and check that the expected tables and data are available.

Use scenarios for controlled testingSave a scenario before changing tables, settings, or connector options. It gives you a quick path back to a known configuration if the test does not produce the expected result.
