Split a table

Data-model transformation

Turn a separator-delimited column into its own table so each individual value can be used in filters, relations, and workflows.

Use Add Split Table when one source column contains several values in a single field—for example, a list separated by commas or semicolons—and your workflow needs to treat each value as its own row.

  • Identify the source table and the separator-delimited column to split.
  • Confirm the source table has a primary key that is different from the column you are splitting.
  • Review a sample of values so you know the actual separator and whether empty values need attention.
  • Choose a clear result-table name that describes the values it will contain.
Keep the original table identityThe source table’s key connects each new split-table row back to its original record. Do not use the multi-value source column itself as that table’s key.

  1. Collect and load the system.

  3. Confirm that each separated source value appears as its own row and remains associated with the correct source record.
  4. Use the split table in a filter or relation only after the results are correct.

Changing the separator or source column changes the result table’s data shape. Review filters, relations, mappings, and jobs that use the split table before modifying its configuration.

Do not create a split table just to display a multi-value field. Use it when each value needs separate matching, filtering, relationship, or provisioning logic. If the connector already exposes a dedicated membership or relationship table, use that connector-provided table instead.
