NIM

Maintenance

The Maintenance tab displays the current state of NIM's Maintenance Mode (on or off). Maintenance Mode is used to prevent the use of the NIM system when system maintenance is being performed. When enabled, non-administrator accounts are logged out after 10 minutes. Additionally, non-administrator accounts cannot log in to NIM while Maintenance Mode is active.

Maintenance Mode is automatically activated while restoring a snapshot or a repository, or when performing an upgrade. Additionally, administrators can enable maintenance mode manually by clicking on Enable Maintenance Mode.

Maintenance mode has four distinct stages:

  1. Off. This is the default state of NIM.

  2. Enabling. Maintenance mode has been enabled by an administrator or by NIM itself, but work is currently being executed and/or non-administrator users are currently logged in. NIM will wait until all currently running tasks are complete and all non-administrators are logged out before fully entering maintenance mode.

  3. Enabled. Maintenance mode has been fully enabled. Maintenance tasks can now be carried out, and no non-administrator users are allowed to log in to the system.

  4. Disabling. An administrator has manually disabled Maintenance Mode, but there are maintenance tasks still in progress. NIM will wait until those tasks are complete before fully disabling maintance mode.

Currently Executing Work

On the Maintenance Mode tab, the Currently Executing Work pane displays all jobs and tasks that are currently running. When performing work that requires NIM to be in Maintenance Mode, such as restoring a snapshot or a repository, or performing an upgrade, NIM will wait until the work listed here is finished before continuing with those operations.

Scheduled Maintenance Work

If NIM is waiting on currently executing work, the pending maintenance activities will be listed in this pane. For example, if you are restoring a snapshot and NIM is currently running a system import, the import will show in Currently Executing Work and the snapshot restoration will be displayed here.
